What experience do you bring to the table, as wedding photographers?

Jolynn and Melanie have been collaborating as wedding photographers for over 20 years. Prior to establishing their joint business, Jolynn built a distinguished career as a solo wedding and portrait photographer, with her work featured in prominent publications such as the Indianapolis News, The Indianapolis Star, the cover of Indy’s Child magazine, the Indy 500 Mile Race program, and The Saturday Evening Post.

Melanie comes from a family with a rich artistic heritage and serves as the artistic and creative consultant for the duo. Her exceptional photography skills, combined with her keen artistic vision, enable her to craft images that transform moments into timeless memories. Melanie has also received numerous awards for her photography and paintings, underscoring her talent and dedication to the arts.

What primary photographic style do you use?

Our style is clean, classic, and timeless. We do not regularly use presets or use techniques that can be considered “fads”. Each image is edited to bring out natural color, clean whites, dark blacks, robust colors, and superior focus. While we do offer some images that may be more highly edited for an atistic approach, we do not have a “blanket” preset we place onto each image. While we do understand that presets offer a look that may be popular at the time, we strive to create images that will not look “dated” for many years to come.

What precautions do you take to avoid loss of images?

This is a very good (and important!) question!
Melanie and Jolynn use multiple cameras, each with dual memory card slots (each image is written to two separate cards, decreasing the chances of corruption).
At the close of the wedding, the images are transferred to secondary SSD drives at home, as well as uploaded to secure cloud storage before we even retire for the evening!
By the next day, all of your wedding images exist on two separate, identical memory cards (per camera), an external SSD drive, and a remote cloud server.
The memory cards are then stored securely, and are not formatted until your wedding is completely edited, uploaded to your personal online gallery, and delivered to you.

Am I able to have the RAW, unedited files from the wedding?

This is not an option we offer. Why?
For the same reason steakhouses won't give you a raw steak, or a painter won't give you a half painted masterpiece. The very core of what we do...the thing that makes us worth every penny, is interwoven into both the initially captured image as well as the post-production editing that we have trained for years to master.

Does MJ Imaging and Design serve everyone?

We absolutely DO serve everyone!

I'm getting married in Hawaii. Do you do destination weddings?

Yes, we do offer destination weddings! We've photographed weddings and events in Florida, Colorado, Kansas, Las Vegas, Michigan, the beaches of Lake Michigan, Illinois, Gulf Shores, AL, and have traveled all over the state of Indiana. Destination weddings are quoted on an individual basis.
The advantage of hiring a destination photographer vs a local photographer is that we will begin our photographic journey before you ever step onto the airplane and are available for family and couples sessions both before and after the wedding and various locations.

What is covered in “full day” coverage?

Full-day coverage typically begins with capturing moments such as hair and makeup, photographing the wedding dress, and documenting the "getting ready" preparations on both sides. We also focus on details like rings and other small elements that are often overlooked. During the ceremony, we document from multiple perspectives to ensure comprehensive coverage. Following the ceremony, we complete any remaining family photos that were not taken earlier. Our coverage continues through several hours of the reception, until all traditional activities are concluded and guests are bidding farewell.

Our primary goal is to provide the highest quality storytelling of your extraordinary wedding day. In our professional opinion, this cannot be fully achieved within a limited timeframe of four or six hours. Charging for additional time often requires you to make difficult decisions about which moments are most important, which can add unnecessary stress to your planning process. Our aim is to support you and help alleviate that stress. We proactively communicate with you prior to the wedding to understand your priorities and collaborate to develop a timeline that ensures we capture all the meaningful moments that matter most to you.
